Multi-Disciplinary Dust Workshops (2016)

MtM hosted an inter-disciplinary workshop on 10 June 2016, to showcase activities and available expertise in the area of mine dust within and beyond UCT’s borders. This was followed by a second workshop on the 13th July to discuss possible ways forward in terms of collaborative research and funding sources. The emphasis of these workshops was on developing trans-disciplinary, multi-stakeholder approaches to the issues of mine dust. The speakers and attendees came from diverse backgrounds, including mineralogists, engineers, scientists, health specialists, dust monitoring consultants, anthropologists and legal experts. Current follow-up activities include 4th year chemical engineering research projects and joint publications.
